A Monday Morning Potpourri

Elitists in the culture of death win the battle to eliminate Baby Charlie:
Despite all of his problems, Charlie’s parents – and millions like them – believe that Charlie is a valuable, living human being who should be given a chance to live. [The doctors and judge playing God did not agree and made sure they got their wish -- to kill one more useless eater. If they released the baby prisoner, Charlie might be improving today.]
Recently, La Civilta Cattolica ran an article by that journal’s editor-in-chief, Fr. Antonio Spadaro, and by Marcelo Figueroa, the Argentinian Presbyterian minister chosen by Pope Francis to be the editor of the Argentinean edition of L’Osservatore Romano, which subsequently republished the article. Since articles in La Civilta Cattolica are vetted by the Vatican secretary of state, since L’Osservatore Romano is the Vatican’s own newspaper, and especially since both Spadaro and Figueroa are reputed to be close to Pope Francis, this article has garnered enormous attention in Catholic circles.
What's at the center of your life? Faith and family or government and bureaucracy?:
A Polish philosopher, Zbigniew Stawrowski has written: “The fundamental cleavage is not the West v. Islam or the West v. the rest, but within the West itself: between those who recognize the values of Judaeo-Christian, Graeco-Roman culture and those who use terms like “democracy,” “values,” “rights” but pervert the latter. So it means democracy of the elites....
Another Zinger from Cardinal Marx:
Cardinal Reinhard Marx of Munich has distanced himself from the apocalyptic scenarios some Catholics have voiced over Germany’s new same-sex marriage law, saying the Church should be more concerned over its historic complicity in demonizing gay people....Cardinal Marx said he understands the fears of some conservative Catholics that same-sex marriage could open the floodgates for marriages “á trois” or for incest. But he said such fears are baseless. “The new law is concerned with allowing same-sex partners – and not close relations or three or more people – to marry,” he said. “One shouldn’t immediately conjure up the bursting of a dam,” he added. [Nah - legalizing abortion for the hard cases didn't lead to abortion on demand. Legalizing euthanasia and physician assisted suicide don't threaten the elderly and vulnerable who are being "terminated without request." All those killings in the Netherlands? Just collateral damage.]
"Loud culture and a quiet pulpit" lead to confusion on the immorality of homosexual acts.:
A steady march of the sexual revolution into deeper and deeper confusion has left many Catholics and fellow Christians confused themselves. But there should be no confusion nor is there permissible dissent by any Catholic (lay or cleric) from Church teaching on human sexuality. Both Scripture and Church doctrine are very clear that all forms of illicit sexual union, whether adultery, fornication, or homosexual acts, are sinful and cannot in any way be approved....Tragically, in recent months, certain clergy have spread incomplete and sometimes patently false notions that such acts can be acceptable; they cannot.
Well...we have plenty for which to pray and fast. May we aways do so in a spirit of hope. We have no reason to despair of God's goodness. He promises that "all things work together for good" for those who love Him and "serve according to His purpose." So let us follow the advice of St. Augustine to, "Love God and do what you will." If we truly love God we will only desire what is pleasing to Him. May we all make it a day for Jesus! That's the best way to start the week.
